Client: Ministry of Culture, Bahrain
This scheme proposes an urban future for central Manama city, generated from location, history and life. It unifies divided traditional and modern city form whilst weaving the essence of the coast with the vibrancy of the city. The scheme brings back the focus to the Bab Al Bahrain, giving it a renewed life as a meaningful threshold.
A place for people to dwell in the city is created. Over 7000sq.m of shaded picnic space is proposed, yet the ‘park’ is not separated from city. Rather, enormous potentials of a simultaneous engagement with nature and culture are harnessed and given urban form. A place is created that dramatically unifies old and new city, representing a future city form where modern buildings embrace and are enriched by traditional tight knit urban structures such as that of the Manama Suq. This scheme unites the city whilst weaving the coastal environment through to enrich and refresh.
