Status: DA- Pending Funding
Client: The Office of Penrith Lakes
Budget: $1.5 Million
TYRRELLSTUDIO was engaged by the Office of Penrith Lakes to develop the design of a public baths facility for Duralia Lake. This included the design of kiosk, amenities building and landscape.
An island archipelago is proposed in the lakes, where there are many small beaches as small raised plinths. These are set within a walled garden offering a seamless character transition over the land/water edge as the ‘beach plinths’ become floating islands.
This design inverts previous thinking about the future of Penrith Lakes, legitimising the ‘used’ landscape character of the mine through direct contrast, rather than attempting complete 'naturalistic' rehabilitation prior to opening the site to the public.
The design is on hold at DA level, pending further funding and decisions about the future of the lakes.
