Client: Blacktown City Council
TYRRELLSTUDIO are collaborating with Sam Crawford Architecture on the design of the Animal Shelter in Blacktown. The facility will replace the existing centre on a new site on the fringe of Western Sydney Regional Parklands.
The design introduces a series of wharf like structures that house dogs, cats and an alpaca whilst allowing the surrounding landscape to be drawn up between each structure. The result is a building that allows the animals to have a strong connection to the outside world at all times.
Another layer of synthetic play yards and islands are composed throughout the fingers. These are the heavily used and hard wearing spaces that are designed to contrast heavily to the soft Cumberland Plain landscape.
The design has been submitted to council and documentation commences in early 2017.
